Here’s our fun A to Z of painting and decorating
A – Attention to detail
Whatever aspect of your painting and decorating you carry out always take time to look for the little things, using a painting company will make the difference.
B – Brushes
Brushes are really important, don’t buy cheap, a good quality set of brushes makes your decorating job so much easier and gets you a great finish.
C – Cleaning
Keep those brushes and rollers clean when you have finished with them, they will last for many projects if you give them a good wash when you have finished.
D – Decorators Caulk
Really important for filling those uneven gaps and bumps around your windows and skirting boards. East to apply with a glue gun and smooth over with your finger in the corners.
E – Expertise
No point doing a job if you don’t know how, learn the trade or hire someone who knows what they are doing. Painting looks easy but for a perfect finish you need to know what you are doing.
F – Flooring
As per the recommendation from painting contractors dublin is better if you keep all your floors covered with paint proof sheeting, this will ensure you don’t spoil your flooring or walk paint through to other rooms in the house.
G – Grain
When wallpapering be sure to match pattern free wallpaper so all the grain is running in the same direction.
H – Hard work
Put in the time and effort and you will get your desired results, no painting job can be done quickly if you want it to look great, take time when cutting in and you will get a perfect finish.
I – Inspiration
Get inspired, research colour schemes and what will look good in your room, if you can’t get inspired or don’t know where to start then seek professional advise.
J – Joey
Get yourself one, also good to have some labour to assist you in cleaning and preparing, making brews, and its always nice to have someone to talk to.
K – kneepads
A MUST when painting skirting boards and low down areas, protect your knees from aches and pains. You can pick a pair up for a fiver at B&Q.
L – Lighting
Good light is important when decorating, natural light is the best, light is needed to show up any defects, lumps, bumps or bad areas of painting.
M – Motivation
No point starting if you aren’t motivated, its important that you WANT to do it before you start, poor motivation will lead to incomplete jobs, and a bad finish. Recipe for disaster.
N – No cutting corners
There is no room for cheating when decorating your home, cutting corners will lead to poor quality jobs, always ensure you cover every aspect of what is needed before you start.
O – Originality
Be original, look for inspiration on google, do something that no one has seen before for that wow factor, coloured ceilings are a great way of creating an amazing effect in rooms. don’t be afraid to try something different.
P – Preparation
Be prepared, get all the tools you need before your start, overalls, dust masks, brushes, pads, stepladders, rollers, sheeting for the floor, caulk, masking tape, and most importantly a radio.
Q – Quality Products
That’s right quality products, a cheap tub of paint will mean more coats, a poor finish and overall a poor finish. pay for the best paints and you will get great coverage, opacity and most of all, a vibrant, fresh great looking finished room. For this you will also need great furnishing products, try the TV Bed Store for your bedroom design.
R – Right tools
Got to have the right tools, and have them ready before you start, don’t be caught short without the equipment you need. Stanley knife, paints, pads and rollers, brushes, sandpaper and a scraper.
S – Sponge
A sponge can be a life saver, a damp sponge is perfect if you ever make a mistake while cutting in.
T – Time
Plan your time carefully and you can set yourself targets so you can get an idea on how long different aspects of the job will take, time to do the job is as important as having the skills to do it.
U – Undercoat
Don’t be tempted to not use undercoat on freshly plastered walls or woodwork. using a good quality undercoat will ensure the topcoat finish is of the highest quality.
V – Value for money
We said it earlier and we will say it again, paying that extra money for good quality products makes more sense than buying poor products, you pay more but get better value for money all the time.
W – wallpapering
Wallpapering is not a job for everyone and takes time, skill and experience, so if your not qualified don’t do it or you could be throwing your money away, a qualified decorator is always best for wallpapering jobs.
X – eXpensive
Getting your decorating done by a trader can be expensive so make sure you get a few quotes and decide on a budget before you start, a good painter and decorator will work with you to get your desired results within you budget.
Y – You can do it
Yes you can, with a little knowledge and a bit of practise you can transform your run down house to a beautiful home.
Z – Zingzillas
I struggled for a Z so if you have young kids stick the telly on and keep them out of the way, we don’t want any accidents.
